Anthropology

Anthropology studies human beings from biological, social and cultural aspects. The other uniqueness of Anthropology is the tradition of field study and empirical data collection. Traditionally Anthropology focused on the simple societies but now a days it also studies the urban population.

Department of Anthropology, Margherita College was established in the year 1998. Department of Anthropology was established with a strong determination to impart anthropological knowledge in this region, moreover it also focuses in documenting the rich culture and heritage of the people residing in this region. The Coal Queen Margherita and its adjoining region is inhabited by various tribes, castes and communities who have a very colourful culture, folklore, traditions, heritage, oral traditions, as well as distinct material culture. Due to various reasons they are facing the problem of culture change. The department of anthropology conducts field study time to time and tries to document their unparallel culture and traditions. The department of anthropology strongly determined to spread anthropological knowledge among its students and make them able to compete globally.
