The socio economic needs of the ever increasing global population, the potentialities for sustainable development at Local, Regional, National and International levels are the most important issues in the progressively shrinking global frontiers making economics as one of the most important and challenging subjects of our time.
The problems facing by the developing countries show many common features and this respect the NE Region of India is not different. In spite of having ‘plenty; of natural resources the development of this region has been slow over the years. In fact, even the problem of Margherita region is same where in spite of a huge resource base comprising water resource base comprising water resource, forest, coal, horticulture products, tea, blue hills and colourful tribal art and crafts ushering ‘eco & cultural tourism. the mass people in general and indigenous people, in particular, are lagging behind.

Mission
As a part of major objectives of the MOU between Department of Economics, Margherita College and Department of Economics, Duliajan College , a student exchange programme started from 15/07/2021.
Department of Economics, Margherita College and Department of Economics, Duliajan College signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to facilitate a platform for the academic cooperation in the areas of mutual interest. The formal inauguration of the first academic exchange program between the two colleges was held in virtual mode on 15/07/2021.
* The Department of Economics begins mentorship for the BA 1st year Economics honours students On 12th september, 2019. Dr. Gautam Purkayastha is the mentor of the 1st batch under the CBCS.
